G is for Governing Law

In this Instagram reel, I talk about governing law.

Yup, you guessed it: this is another boilerplate provision.

The governing law provision establishes which state’s laws govern the terms of your contract, which means it also establishes which state’s laws you must be in compliance with. SO important!

This provision does come up from time to time with wedding pros if you’re working on a destination wedding, but it’s definitely something my creative clients share questions about if they provide services online.

While there are always exceptions, generally governing law should be for the state where you reside or have your business, not where the service is being performed.
